How to Use an Energizer Battery Charger

Disposable batteries tend to drain quickly making them costly to replace and they are not environmentally friendly. Rechargeable batteries are a better option for many because the batteries may be used over and over again; thus saving money and reducing waste. It is important to run the batteries completely out before recharging so that they do not build up memory, extending their life. Typically, the life of rechargeable batteries can last anywhere from 500 to 800 charges. Energizer is the number one selling rechargeable battery in the world as of 2010.

  1. Open the package the charger is in. There will be two or four slots to hold the batteries depending which model was purchased. The standard battery size is AA but there will be a drop down lever that can be pulled down to accommodate AAA batteries if desired.

  2. Open the package the batteries came in. Tear the package carefully so as not to damage the batteries or cut into them. Keep all the batteries together to ensure they do not become lost or dropped. Dropping batteries may cause damage to them.

  3. Place the batteries on the charger. Place the batteries on the top and bottom of each slot indicated by metal prongs. The batteries go into the charger right side up with the pointed tips of the batteries facing the ceiling and the flat surface of the batteries parallel to the ground.

  4. Plug the charger into an outlet. Look for the green light appearing at the top of the charger indicating the batteries are charging. The batteries will be completely charged in as little as two hours.

  5. Remove the battery charger from the electrical outlet once the two hour charging cycle has completed. When the batteries are completely charged, the green light indicator will go away, indicating the charging cycle is complete.

  6. Remove the batteries from the charger for use. If not using all batteries at once, store remaining batteries in a safe place.

How Do I Know If a Black and Decker 12V Cordless Is Charging?

A Black & Decker 12-volt cordless drill uses a rechargeable battery pack to power the drill. The battery should be recharged as needed using the battery charger. If you are unsure if the battery pack is charging while connected to the charger, there are three different ways to check. All are easy to do. If the battery is not charging while connected to the charger, ensure the battery is properly connected to the battery charger. Also check whether the battery charger is plugged into a working electrical outlet. If the battery still does not charge, the battery charger or battery may need to be replaced.

Plug the battery charger into a working electrical outlet. Allow the battery to charge for nine hours prior to the first use and three to six hours thereafter.

Locate the charging battery light on the battery charger. When charging, the light will be red. Once the charging cycle is complete, the battery will not go out or change color. It will continue to stay red.

Listen to the battery and charger for a light humming sound. When the battery is charging, you will hear it make a quiet humming sound.

Feel the battery after it has been charging for at least an hour. While charging, the battery will feel warm. If the battery feels cool, it is likely not receiving power or being charged.
